Building BIG Networks: How Making Connections Can Help Your Business

In the business world, knowing people and having connections is
one of the keys to accomplishing something great...this book will show you how to get out there and be GREAT!

http://www.amazon.com/Building-BIG-Networks-Connections-Business-ebook/dp/B00IO4JT06/ref=la_B00I4FEKC2_1_15?s=books&ie=UTF8&qid=1402123594&sr=1-15If you are trying to
sell a product or service cold to the masses, you are probably hitting a
brick wall. There are generally a score of other people trying to do
the same thing that you are and there is little hope of cutting through
the millions and millions of marketing messages being sent out daily.

What if, instead of shouting to everyone, you had a group of people who liked listening to you, were receptive to your offers and were willing to share your “stuff” with their family and friends.

This group of champions are who you want to cultivate in your network.

Making The Most Out Of Social Networking Websites

Do you belong to an online social networking website? With their recent rise in popularity there is a good chance that you do. However, it is one thing to be a community member and another to actually participate in online discussions, as well as the many other network features. That is why it is advised that you learn how to make the most out of your social networking experience.

Many internet users already think that they know everything that they need to know about their social networking community. Unfortunately, not everyone does. In fact, you can find numerous posts online of people ranting or stating that they wished that their social networking website, such as Facebook, Twitter, LinkedIn, or Google+, had a particular service and feature. Too many times, those posters did not look before they started speaking because, as it turns out, many social networking websites have what people want, if people knew how to look for those features.

The first step, in making the most out of your social networking experience, is to familiarize yourself to the online community or communities that you belong to. This can easily be done by closely examining the website. There are too many internet users who are focused on meeting new friends right away. While it is nice to start meeting new people right away, it is also nice to know what your social networking site has to offer. This can only be done by closely examining the website. Whether you take one hour or one day examining the website, you will likely be pleased with your decision to do it.

When examining the website of the online community that you belong to, it is advised that you examine the terms of use agreement. This agreement often outlines what you can and cannot do online. Despite the fact that a large number of online networking sites, such as MySpace, have little rules, there are other websites that have them. These rules and restrictions may limit the content that you can have on your site, as well as your pictures, videos, and other media. Many websites, including social networking websites, will terminate your membership if you are found violating these agreements. By reading all of the rules and restrictions of the social networking website you belong to, you should be able to ensure that you can continue to use and enjoy the site.

One of the many benefits to fully examining the social network you belong to is that you could be alerted to network benefits, features, or services that you were previously unaware of. In addition to giving you your own profile page and allowing you to invite other internet users into your network, there are a number of other things that you can do with online social networking websites. A large number of websites have created features and sections that include horoscopes, quizzes, polls, instant massaging, chat rooms, and much more. However, before you make use of these member benefits, you must know that they exist.

If you are interested in making new online friends, it is likely that you have already joined an online social networking community. Whether you are interested in joining more or you are a first time user, you will to carefully choose your networks. By researching each social networking website online, you should easily be able to familarize yourself with the advantages and disadvantages of each. And, since most social networking websites are free to use, there are no risks associated with giving the network a try. If you happen to come across a website that requires a paid membership and you would like to try it, you are advised to lookout for free membership plans or free trail periods. They may be able to help you determine whether or not the social networking website that you are interested in joining is worth the cost.

As you can easily see, there are a number of different ways to go about making the most out of your social networking experience. The control is in your hands. It is your decision as to whether or not you want to spend a small amount of time researching your network and everything that it has to offer. However, it is important to note that not doing so may literally mean that you are missing out on all of the fun.

Happy Hour Networking Event To Celebrate Single Moms

This afternoon "Drivetime With Mac & Doog" will be broadcasting LIVE from The Cabin Bar Denver 3pm-6pm followed by a free 303Network Happy Hour to raise awareness of the vision of Marla Jane Swanson and The WilLiv Center (http://www.williv.org/) to help single moms and their kids.

What can be possible when three seemingly unrelated industries come together with a common vision based on the principle, "never grow weary of doing good"?

The WilLiv Center, founded by visionary Marla Jane Swanson, is a Colorado 501-(c)(3) Non-Profit dedicated to helping women and chiildren survive the ordeal that is caused by a long and painful divorce process. By providing moral, emotional, and yes, sometimes even financial support, The WilLiv Center strives to help women and children make it through the trials and tribulations of the court process, until they can get settled in their new lifestyle.

Mark McIntosh and Jimmy Doogan, "Mac and Doog", host three hours of sports talk weekdays from 3-6 on AM1510 and FM93.7 where they encourage listeners to call in and share with their mantra, "Ain't about us, it's about YOU!"

Mac and Doog are two dudes who love sports, people and playing like champions in the game of life. They cherish encouraging others to mix the three, a terrific trio in honoring self, nurturing those dependent upon themselves and adding value to the communities they serve.

The 303Network is one of the most successful and heavily attended networking groups in Denver. The 303Network produces monthly mixers for creative, corporate and entrepreneurial folks alike, and provides opportunities for individuals to experience casual networking as a means to meet individuals for business partnerships, sales leads, new business or even new jobs.

In an effort to raise awareness for The WilLiv Center and encourage a community gathering of professionals and consumers focused on connecting and growth, Mac & Doog and 303Network joined forces. Armed with Mark McIntosh's signature tagline, "never grow weary of doing good", the expanded team has invited members of the community to attend a casual mixer where they can meet the celebrities, connect with others, and support this very worthwhile cause.

The event will be held this afternoon at The Cabin Bar, 2700 S. Havana St. in Aurora.  Drivetime with Mac & Doog will broadcast live from 3pm - 6pm, and Happy Hour will begin at 5:30pm.  Guests may attend for free when they register online at http://maymacdoog303network.eventbrite.com/, and will be treated to drink and dinner specials and the sultry vocal sounds of Molly Cottrell.  Free parking is available, and a silent auction will feature mom-friendly gifts.  The event will be covered by local media including NightlifeDenver.com and The Denver Networking Examiner.  More than 200 guests are currently registered, and more are anticipated.

How to Guarantee Great People Skills by Connecting with People

Do you know how to improve your people skills? Improving your people skills entails knowing to create a good connection with people. And there are certain things you have to remember if you want to connect well with the people around you.

1) Connecting with people does not mean you have to be a phony. It is the direct opposite of pretending to be someone you are not.

2) Connecting with people means you should be aware of who you are first and what you hold dear to yourself. This means being aware of what values you espouse and stand for.

3) You must then be able to form a relationship between your personal set of values with the values that other people hold dear to themselves. This then is the act of connecting with people.

How does one go about connecting with people?

1) You connect with other people by taking advantage of your potential for communicating with other people. This means using your body and your faculties during the communication process.

2) Make eye contact with the other person. This may be one of the most valuable non-verbal means of communication you can use. One glance from another person can speak volumes about that person 's feelings and attitude about you. How many times have fights broken out in bars and restaurants simply because one person looked at the other person "the wrong way"? Much of what we want to communicate can be delivered through the eyes.

3) Be conscious of the different channels for communication that you and other people use. Many misunderstandings crop up when someone uses a communication channel that the other person is unfamiliar with. For example, some people like to talk a lot so they don't understand people who aren't so vocal. Others are "touchers" who like to convey part of what they are feeling to the other person through touch - perhaps a pat on the shoulder, or a friendly swat on the behind are all it takes for this person to show approval.

4) Be conscious of gaps between cultures. In this age of multiculturalism, where different cultures can co-exist in the same community, it is inevitable that communication can breakdown occasionally (and sometimes more often than is comfortable.) It helps if you are tolerant towards other cultures because then you do not instantly become hostile at the mere presence of a person from another culture.

If you are aware of what you stand for and know you will not be immediately convinced to follow another cultural perspective, then there is no need to bristle when a new person from another culture makes his presence known. On the contrary, you will welcome cultural exchanges for their potential value to you.

5) Be aware of your potential for change. Sometimes, it is necessary to interact with other people because you have a need to change something about yourself. Fanatics have a hard time changing because they believe their beliefs are superior to other beliefs.

If you look inside yourself and find that there are aspects of your beliefs, thoughts, or personality that could be adjusted, then this can only help to improve your relationships with other people. If another person is able to point out that need to change, it is beneficial if you are open to changing. Otherwise, hostilities will result but you will remain the same person who needs to change.

People skills can be improved if you only know how to go about it. And improving your people skills will benefit you in a myriad of ways. So do take the appropriate steps to enhance your people skills and see the difference these make in your relationships with other people.

Peter Murphy is a peak performance expert. He recently produced a very popular free report: 10 Simple Steps to Developing Communication Confidence.

Business Networking For Women Entrepreneurs: Connecting Is The Key To Magical Networking

Something strange happens to many women when they approach networking opportunities. They suddenly forget how to connect, simply going through the motions of shaking hands and exchanging business cards. Networking becomes a chore -- part of a business plan that is carried out with apprehension and some degree of loathing. It doesn’t have to be this way. Networking magic happens through your connections - and your connections can create the fulfilling life you’re looking for.

Your First Step: Start With Your Heart

Real connections come from true, heart-felt, and honest interactions. Shed your business persona and be yourself. If you have a line drawn between your personal and business connections, then erase that line. Start connecting with others as if each person might end up as your best friend. It’s a simple formula for connecting from your heart with other entrepreneurs: Be yourself, and you’ll naturally attract like-minded, quality people. People you meet are more likely to introduce you to their friends and associates if they like you.

Honesty, curiosity, and vulnerability are keys to success. Intimate connections are the foundation upon which we build satisfied lives and the best connections are heart-centered connections. Don’t think for a minute that success in business requires a stoic business persona. Nothing could be farther from the truth.

Maintain an attitude of service

Great connections are the ultimate life and business builders and all great connections are based on a positive attitude of serving. Yes, it’s true that we can’t stay in business for long if we give everything away. But, there’s a fascinating paradox that I’ve discovered in my many years of networking and creating connections. The more I give, the more I get.

Approach each interaction with an eye toward providing service. Find out what your prospect needs, and if you can’t provide the answers, then steer her towards someone you know. You’re not giving your business away, but you are always thinking of ways you can be of service to others. A service-oriented attitude is perhaps the most magical networking tool available. You’ll be amazed at how swiftly and abundantly it comes back your way. Simply put - the more you give, the more you get.

It’s not who you know, it’s who knows you

Those with the largest database of business cards don’t necessarily win. Unless you’ve honestly connected with the most influential people in your database, having their names will do you little good. Put your energy toward creating close connections with those who can have the most positive influence in your life, and don’t limit your search to business connections.

Think in terms of how you can help these people by connecting them with others you know, by providing a unique service, or simply by being a friend. Make yourself available and they’ll respond in kind when you’re in need. Ask yourself: Who are the most influential people in my industry? Who are the people with whom I’d most like to associate with? Then, start developing strategies to meet these people. It’s most important to connect with those who are most like how you want to be. And don’t for a moment believe that some people are out of your reach. Aim high and you’ll reach high.

Connecting isn’t a solo trip

Great networking isn’t about out-maneuvering your competition. The best networkers think in terms of collaboration, not competition, even with their fiercest competitors. How might two or three of you band together to provide products or services to more high-end, high-paying customers? How can you enlist the help of people around the globe in your R&D efforts?

Connecting by its very nature is collaborative. Instead of collecting business cards and sending out brochures, seek out people with whom you might collaborate and build strong connections. You might meet someone with a brilliant idea who’s looking for a partner with your expertise. Or, you might form a mastermind group to brainstorm innovative ways to improve your business while holding each other accountable for implementing these new ideas. Best of all, you’ll create new friendships that enrich your life.

Beyond The Weather: Small Talk Tips For Networking Your Small Business

Have you ever been invited to a business networking meeting or luncheon, or thought about going to your chamber of commerce's networking events, but decided not to because you never know what to say to get the conversation started?

I've been there – and here's the simple trick I learned to help me feel comfortable with the cocktail party small talk. Most people who know me wouldn't think of me as "shy" – and I'm not – most of the time. When it comes to "networking" though, I used to struggle with making small talk.

That is, until I learned the F.O.R.M. trick.

F.O.R.M. works great because it works as a memory tool for when you are in social situations and you want to get to know the person you are talking with, and you want that person to remember you – and your business. Instead of talking about the weather, use FORM to make your conversation count.

F.O.R.M. stands for Family, Occupation, Recreation and Message – four areas you can use as conversation helpers in just about any social situation.

Family – asking whether they live around the area, if they are originally from the area or have moved there recently, if they have a family – all of these are great conversation starters. This gets the person talking about themselves and gives you a chance to learn about them.

Occupation – what do you do for a living? When they tell you what they do, you have a great opportunity to ask them about their job – if it's in an industry you are familiar with you can comment about how competitive it is, or how challenging. If you are unfamiliar with their industry, here's your chance to learn about it.

When they ask what you do, have your '30 second elevator speech" ready. This is a description of your business that you can say in just a couple of sentences that articulates what it is that you do.

For instance, for my business I would say that "I help small to medium sized business owners market their brick-and-mortar businesses on the Internet, finding new local customers, increasing their sales and growing their businesses."

Recreation – this one's easy! What do you do for fun? If they participate in a sport or hobby that you enjoy as well, you can swap stories and really build a memorable relationship with the person.

For instance, if I meet someone and they tell me that they love to travel – then I can talk to them for hours, learning about the places they've visited. I can also share with them my passion for photography and how my camera has gotten me into some interesting adventures while we've been on the road.

Message – when you feel the conversation winding down, or you want to move on to meet other people in the group, have your "message" that you want this person to remember about you ready to go. It's something like your elevator speech, but much more personal to the individual you are talking to.

For me, my message is simple. "It was great to meet you, Bob. If you ever need help marketing your business online – or you run into someone who does – you know who to call."

If your business is selling plumbing supplies, just change it up a bit: "It was great to meet you, Bob. If you ever need a new faucet, I'm your guy!"

Of course, it's implied that when they give you their card, you will refer business to them as well – and you definitely should. Rising tides raise all ships, and the more referrals you can send to others, the more they are likely to send to you as well.

You can skip some of the first 3 steps, or cover them in a different order – but your message is key. First and foremost, you want to build a relationship with the person you are talking with, and you start to do that with the first 3 questions. Your message that you give them as you get ready to leave helps them remember who you are and what you do – which is an incredibly powerful way to use networking to grow your referrals and your customer base.

Give F.O.R.M. a try the next time you are stuck for a conversation starter, and watch your network – and your customer base – grow as a result.
